A Contemporary Infill Home Inspired by Rural Architecture

Everton House is a contemporary new-build family home designed for a sensitive infill site in Lymington, close to the Grade II listed Harts Farm. The challenge was to create a distinctive contemporary house that respected the site's rural heritage while providing privacy, generous living spaces and a strong connection to the garden.

Drawing inspiration from the simple forms of traditional agricultural buildings, the design reinterprets local barn architecture through clean lines, natural materials and carefully considered proportions.

Designed Around a Private Courtyard

The house is arranged to create a sheltered south-facing courtyard, turning away from neighbouring development while opening towards sunlight and landscaped gardens.

The long, low form reduces the visual impact of the building and allows it to sit comfortably alongside the neighbouring historic farm buildings. Carefully positioned glazing frames views within the site while maintaining privacy for both the new home and its neighbours.

Materiality

A restrained palette of brick, timber and contemporary detailing creates a building that feels rooted in its setting without replicating the surrounding historic architecture.

The masonry reflects the agricultural character of the area, while simple forms and carefully composed openings give the house a distinctly contemporary identity.

Respecting Context Through Contemporary Design

Rather than imitating the past, Everton House takes its cues from the scale, form and character of its surroundings to create a home that belongs to its place.

The result is a contemporary family house that enhances this sensitive rural setting while demonstrating how modern architecture can successfully complement historic landscapes.
